My husband and I have visited this city quite a few times and the most memorable visit was when we stayed on a ship! Each time we travel here, I find a few new favorite spots.

Where To Stay:

If you want to stay somewhere really unique and memorable, check out the SS Rotterdam Ship. The rooms are really spacious and you feel like you are off at sea, but without the sea-sickness! You can take a water taxi right into the heart of the city. It has a really nice bar located inside and a pool if you happen to visit during the summer.

P.S. You can also take a tour of the whole ship!

Don’t forget your travel insurance! We recommend World Nomads. Make sure to have coverage that includes medical expenses, trip cancellations, and coverage for your belongings from theft or damage. If needed, you may also want to include car rental insurance as well.

Visit Vessel 11

Have a beverage or meal on Vessel 11 . It’s my favorite place to have a beverage in all of Europe. Why? Because it’s an English Restaurant/pub on a boat right on the water in downtown Rotterdam.

Visit The Fenix Food Factory

The Fenix Food Factory is an old port warehouse that is walking distance from SSRotterdam Hotel. It’s a great place to stop in for a craft beer or to see which local food vendors are there during your visit. They also have live Jazz on the weekends. Check out their site for more information during your stay.

Also check out the New York Hotel for an aperitif or a really nice meal.

Visit The Funky Cube Houses

The Funky Cube Houses speak for themselves! They are located right next to The Markthal of Rotterdam.

Visit The Markthal

The Markthal is full of food vendors, so you will be able to find lots of food options available. Even if you don’t eat there while visiting, stop in to see the ceiling.

And this post wouldn’t be complete without a list of hot vegan spots: Rotterdam has a lot of great vegan options if you look for them.

  • Backyard: This is my favorite vegan spot in Rotterdam. It has vegan toasties, lattes, and soups. The atmosphere is really cozy, chill and will warm you right up.
  • Bagels and Beans: If you are wanting a vegan option for a quick bagel sandwich, check this one out! (Right by the Markthal)
  • Weena: Weena is a coffee shop that is located by the train station and offers several vegan options as well.
  • Restaurant Gare du Nord: This is an all vegan restaurant set in an old train car!

If you will be in Holland for a few more days, check out my Amsterdam or Kinderdijk, Dordrecht, Bergen Op Zoom blog links.
