Don’t worry, we managed to stay dry with these 10 indoor or covered activities. We visited Strasbourg, France for a day and it was raining off and on all day long. I hope this helps you with your visit!

10 Activities for a Rainy Day in Strasbourg, France:
Activity 1 – Petite France
Start your day with a short walk through Petite France. There are charming bridges and half-timbered houses that you don’t want to miss!
Activity 2 – Petite Déjeuner
Continue your walk to Salon de The Grand Rue . It’s a quirky, quaint tea shop where you can grab a classic French breakfast. The Salon de The offers petite dejeuner, which means a small breakfast in French.
Activity 3 – Cathedral of Our Lady of Strasbourg
After your petite dejeuner, it will be a very short walk to the famous Cathedral of Strasbourg. You can climb to the top for a bird’s eye view for €5.00.
We live in France so naturally I was comparing it to the Notre Dame of Paris. What I didn’t expect to see was the intricate details of the astronomical clock. It was definitely the highlight of the trip! We weren’t there to see it in action, so that is something that I would change if we were to go back for a second visit. You need to have a ticket for 12:00 to be there for the 12:30 clock in action.
Activity 4 – Train Ride
Right outside of the cathedral, there is a little tourist train. It’s an audio guided tour about the history of the region. The cost is €7.00 per person. You don’t need to buy tickets ahead of time. Just have make sure to have cash with you. It will keep you covered and dry, even though the sides of the train are open. The train ride will give you the history of the four towers and the covered bridge.
Activity 5 – Saint Thomas Church
The train will take you back to the starting point, which is directly outside of the Cathedral. From there, you can easily walk to the Saint Thomas Church.
Activity 6 – Local Strasbourg Cuisine
After all of the touring, you’ll be ready to head back to the main square for some local cuisine and souvenir shopping. One of the local cuisines of Strasbourg is called Flammekueche or tarte flambée. Flammekueche is the German word for the pie and tarte flambée is the French word. It’s a really thin bread dough covered with fromage blanc, or white cheese. You can order different toppings for your pie, but traditionally they have onions and pork as toppings.
But have no worries if you are vegan, there are plenty of options in the area. If you are vegan, I would suggest Velicious Vegan Burger.
This area of France is called the Alsace region, which borders Germany. They are known for their terrific local white wine. We normally perceive a Riesling as a sweet wine, but here they are quite dry. Strasbourg also has many Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Gewürztraminer. You can see the German influence with the last one, right?
Activity 7 – The Historic Wine Cellars
You can discover the history of this wine region by visiting the Historic Wine Cellars in Strasbourg’s hospice. It’s the oldest white wine cellar in the world! Bonus it’s free to visit!
Activity 8 – A covered river boat cruise
This activity is audio guided and 70 minutes long. It will take you past Petite France, the Covered Bridges, the imperial quarter, and the European Institutions. Boat link below: https://www.batorama.com/en
Activity 9 – Wine Tasting
@ Un Cantalou a Strasbourg If you are tight on time and don’t have time for a sit down wine tasting experience. I suggest checking this place out where you can sample many wines and get information about each of them from the friendly staff.
Finish your day with a fantastic dinner spot. We recommend La Bistrot des Cocottes. It has vegan options, its cozy, and has superb service.
Activity 10 – Evening Stroll
After dinner, walk back by the Cathedral. It really is a sight to see when it’s lit up night.
