We visited Lyon, France for a weekend and it has been one of my favorite places to visit in France so far! In the short time that we visited, I could observe and taste the French culture more than in any other town because there weren’t so many tourists. This town would be ideal to visit right after spending time in Paris. It’s much smaller and has a slower pace that just naturally makes it a very relaxing place to visit.
Where To Stay:
Cour des Loges This hotel is pricey but worth every penny if you want to experience the best of Lyon, France. If you want the ultimate French experience, dine at the hotel’s Michelin Star restaurant, Les Loges, or visit Cafe Epicerie.
Don’t forget your travel insurance! We recommend World Nomads. Make sure to have coverage that includes medical expenses, trip cancellations, and coverage for your belongings from theft or damage. If needed, you may also want to include car rental insurance as well.
Activities:
Visit the Amphitheater and The Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere
We started our day by visiting the old amphitheater and then made our way to The Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourviere had an incredible ceiling!
If you walk around to the back of The Basilique-Notre de Fourviere, you will also be able to see a jaw-dropping view of the city.
Rent Lime Scooters
In Lyon, they have the lime scooters that you can rent to ride along the river or throughout the city. We rented scooters and rode them to Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse for lunch. They have lots of vendors with all types of dishes.
Look for Street Murals
After lunch, look for the amazing murals all around the town. This one really caught my eye because of how the balconies were painted onto the side of building.
Enjoy The Best Wine Spot
Then stop in La Cave d’a Cote for a glass of wine before dinner! This wine bar is cozy, quaint, and the staff was super friendly as well.
Shops and Coffee Spots:
Enjoy the local shops and stop by Le Luminarium For Coffee and pastries:
Spa Day:
Definitely take some time during your stay to enjoy the spa at the hotel mentioned above. There is a nice pool, hot tub, and sauna that were the perfect end to a day of walking and touring the town. You don’t have to schedule a treatment to enjoy the facilities.
I hope you enjoyed this Lyon blog post. If you have more time to visit France, you may want to check out one of my other blog posts: Strasbourg, Chablis, Loire Valley, or Paris.
A bientot!
