French Inspired Books
In my opinion, this is one of the best books about living in Paris! The book, Almost French, was a gift that was given to me when we moved overseas. The author Sarah Turnball is an expat finding her way in Paris. If you ever visit Paris, make sure to find the setting of this book, which is in the 2nd arrondissement. Rue Montorgueil is city-center Paris where the street is lined with cafes and bistros. It’s a place where people watching is the only activity required. Also I highly recommend Janice MacLeod’s books: A Paris Year and Paris Letters. The watercolor images and little facts about the city are quite dreamy.
If you are looking for an action packed thriller, check out The Paris Diversion by Chris Pavone. Looking for a French wine book? I am someone who appreciates a fine wine and I adore these books: French Wine Route or this European Wine Guide.
As a travel blogger, I must mention Rick Steve’s Paris Book and Rick Steve’s France Travel Guide. There are plenty of travel books about France, but truly Rick Steve’s guidebooks are the best. One more bonus item! These little Parisian magnetic page-markers are the perfect small gift to go along with one of the books.
French Movie Gift Ideas:
Currently in Paris, the new Netflix show, “Emily in Paris” is all the rage! Have you seen it? We don’t have Netflix so I haven’t seen it, but here are my top 3 movies that would be great gifts for a French-themed gift basket. I will also link a few fun accessories that are movie-themed.
1. Amelie: The movie Amelie takes place in Montmartre, one of the most historical areas in Paris. There is a cafe dedicated to the film, Cafe des Deux Moulins, where I took this photo. I also found this Amelie coffee mug!
2. The Moulin Rouge: This movie is another classic! Check out these Moulin Rouge wine charms.
3. Last but not least, Midnight in Paris is a fabulous film about the city of love and lights!
French Fashion Gifts
Fashion is king in Paris, but most Parisienne women are usually minimalists when it comes to clothing. You only need a few classic pieces of clothing. Here are my 5 fashion gift ideas that any Francophile would love.
The beret! Yes, people wear them, including me! Not only the expats, but locals as well. So here’s the link for a nice beret available in several colors.
Perfume is a fashion accessory in Paris. They say, “You are never fully dressed without perfume.” Dior and Chanel are a few of the French favorites.
Sunglasses may seem like a strange item to add as a gift, but you can never have too many pairs of sunglasses in this city. I see scarves just like I see sunglasses. You can never have too many. These blanket scarves are perfect for the city where everyone dines outside.
This fashion list of French inspired gifts would be incomplete without mentioning a little lip color.
That’s it! Fashion really is simply a hat, a scent, some shades and a scarf. Of course that little splash of color on the lips is optional.
French Picnic & Market Gifts
Create a French inspired picnic! Here is a classic picnic basket set if you want an authentic set. We are a bit more practical and enjoy the convenience of the Picnic backpack set. You carry everything when you are a city dweller. Here are a few French Inspired market bags. They really can be perfect for any major city where you travel by foot or metro everyday.
When we first moved to Paris, I didn’t understand why everyone was carrying a Canvas Tote Bag. Now I see that it’s an easy way to grab your market items without using plastic. Here is one of my favorite French Inspired totes for you! The French are known for their fresh farmers markets, so here is another large market bag that would make a great gift.
Here’s the number one item that you need in your bag. An umbrella is essential in Paris with its rainy fall and winter seasons. I proudly carry this cliche Parisian umbrella around the city and show off my expat style.
French Inspired Wine Gifts
Let’s be honest, the best wine inspired gifts are bottles of wine! But here are a few more ideas if you want an item to wrap. A rose colored wine cork screw is perfect to pair with a summer rose wine! These wooden wine crates are a great way to store larger kitchen items. If you want to give the gift of perfecting wine tasting, this decanter set is the way to go. If you are gifting wine, then you can gift it in this cool French Inspired wine carrier.
French Inspired Food Gifts
Shop Local
Of course, I encourage everyone to shop for fresh local items. Continue to support your local businesses as much as possible, but here are a few French inspired items that you can find online. These days, we are a little obsessed with French Dijon Mustard. It would be the perfect addition to a French food gift basket. You can also find macaroons, French butter cookies, and even French cheese baskets online. Food is really the way to everyone’s heart so my last French gift idea also involves food. Is there a French restaurant in your home town? Perhaps you can offer a gift card to a local French Restaurant, cooking course, or wine tasting?
French Inspired Home Gifts
Are you looking for a new home owner gift? Or decorating your French Inspired country cottage? Here are a few of my favorite online items. You can give the gift of coziness with this French Blue Blanket or these “BonSoir” Pillow Cases.
